Estate Tax Organizing Assistant

Estate Tax Organizing Assistant

As part of its economic fairness work, United for a Fair Economy is campaigning to prevent the repeal of the federal estate tax, the most progressive tax in the US. The estate tax is owed only on estates worth more than $2 million per person, so 99.73% of Americans pay no estate tax. Repealing the estate tax would cost $1 trillion in the first decade after repeal, resulting in cuts to important programs like education, and shifting the tax burden to low- and middle-income taxpayers. For info, see: http://faireconomy.org/issues/estate_tax

The intern will help the Senior Organizer on Estate Tax Policy to activate a national network of groups and individuals supporting legislation to preserve and reform the estate tax. Together the intern and supervisor will develop a workplan that will include some of the tasks listed below:

Duties May Include:

  • Become familiar with the issues through reading
  • Call or email organizations and individuals in target states to obtain support
  • Research, write, or update action alerts, flyers, handouts, fact sheets, and other estate tax campaign materials
  • Track opposition groups' activities; monitor opposition websites by receiving emails and visiting sites
  • Assist with media: write letters to the editor and op-eds and find people to author them. Help research and implement strategy with business and farm media. Find and distribute news items on the estate tax daily news summary. Update media database re: media coverage and events; construct media lists, and research media contacts.

Hours are flexible, but we hope for the intern to work between 10-25 hours/wk. MBTA pass offered to those working over 20 hours/wk.
