My name is Liliana Avendaño. I'm Colombian and I've lived in Boston for three years. I moved to the United States in search of new opportunities. The first two years I was doing what so many immigrants do. I worked nonstop to get ahead doing work that I never did in my own country. It has always been my passion to work by and for the community and I have participated in community projects in Colombia, Argentina and, one year ago, I started to work with several entities including CCDS (the Cooperative Center for Development and Solidarity) of which I am a founding member of the board and one of the first group facilitators. I am now developing a parallel project against domestic violence, because I am a survivor and I have a passion for giving to others what I once was fortunate to receive. I also serve in my church doing community development supporting people who are going through difficult situations. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Education at Urban College and am learning English. All this thanks to grants for which I've been selected. I think this is only the beginning of many more things I plan to do for others.
