Now Hiring: NC Organizer, Inclusive Economy Network

This North Carolina-based organizer will support a coalition and its members to improve the lives of low-wage workers across NC.

Some pre-work has already been done and there is some consensus around what specific policies this coalition is likely to organize around. This coalition organizer will take it from here: move this consensus toward a campaign strategy and help manage day-to-day operation of the coalition in a manner that works toward shifting state policy. 


We value the leadership of people working at the grassroots level, and a successful coalition will be guided by, and informed by these workers and organizers. This coordinator will build strong relationships with coalition partners and support them in their work, and find areas of consensus and convergence with other key statewide partners.  

Who We Are: United for a Fair Economy is a national 501(c)3 organization that supports social movements fighting for a resilient, sustainable, and equitable economy. The newly formed Inclusive Economy Network is working with local stakeholders to create innovative organizing and policy campaigns with the goal of lifting up working families and closing the racial wealth gap.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • 2-4  years experience in organizing, political campaigning, movement building, base building or coalition organizing.

  • Knowledge of public policy, popular education and organizing strategies in North Carolina.

  • Effective communication skills – written, oral (public speaking), and listening.

  • Deep progressive connections in North Carolina, specifically organizing with low-wage workers and communities of color.

  • Commitment to economic and social justice and anti-oppression values, and to building a multicultural, anti-oppressive workplace.

  • Strong awareness of the intersections of race, class and gender.

  • Bilingual or Multilingual candidates encouraged to apply.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen effectively and collaborate with other team members.

  • Proven advocacy and organizing skills.

  • Ability and willingness to travel state-wide.

  • A diplomatic, respectful manner and disposition with colleagues at all levels.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, ability to work in a Mac environment.

  • Willingness to travel outside of the state several times per year, if necessary.

  • ability to navigate various social environments (like organized labor, business, advocacy, etc)

Salary and Benefits:  This is a 24 hours-per-week, part-time position. Salary is between $26,500-$28,000 a year, depending on experience. UFE offers excellent benefits, including pro-rated employer sponsored healthcare and dental, holiday and vacation time, paid sick time.  Chance for full-time employment in the future.

Location: This position will be located in North Carolina, with preference for Durham. Other areas of the state will be considered.
