Spoof TV Ad Thanks Republicans for Estate Tax Repeal Efforts

New Ad To Begin Airing Tomorrow in Washington, D.C.

BOSTON-A new TV ad featuring a frivolous heiress figure who thanks Congressional Republicans for their attempts to repeal the federal estate tax will begin airing September 2 on cable stations in the Washington, D.C. area. The ad can be viewed at http://www.faireconomy.org/estatetax/heiressad.

The U.S. Senate is scheduled to vote on estate tax repeal when it returns from recess the week of September 5. Repeal of the tax would benefit only the super-rich-fewer than 2% of Americans-while costing the U.S. Treasury $1 trillion over the first ten years of repeal.

Sponsored by United for a Fair Economy (UFE), the ad will run between September 2-6 on the Fox News Channel, CNN, and MSNBC cable stations.

"We hope this humorous ad will remind some of the senators who are undecided on their vote to do the right thing for the country," said Lee Farris, Senior Organizer for Estate Tax Policy for UFE. "The fact that permanent repeal of the federal estate tax is one of the first things the Senate is scheduled to act on next week is irresponsible enough. But we are now hearing that some senators are proposing a virtual repeal of the estate tax and calling it a compromise. Such a virtual repeal would be extremely detrimental to the federal budget, as we struggle to recover from multiple assaults like the previous tax cuts for the wealthy, the war in Iraq, and now disaster relief from Hurricane Katrina."

The ad was produced by Carden Communications (www.cardencom.com ) of Washington DC.

Hi, I'm London, and I just wanted to personally thank my Republican friends in Congress for trying to get rid of that mean old inheritance tax.

I already stand to inherit a fortune, and because of you, I will get millions more.

I know the government has a lot of debt and it has to cut benefits to our soldiers. But they're used to making sacrifices. I'm not. So I just wanted to say to the Republican party, thanks for watching out for me. You are so hot.
