Description: Educating & Organizing for Economic Justice: Theories, Tips, & Tensions. In "We Make the Road by Walking", Paulo Freire and Myles Horton have a dialogue about the difference between education and organizin. Myles believed that they were separate ("I'd say that if you were working with an organization and there's a choie between the goal of that organization... and educating people, helping them become able to analyze...we'd sacrifice the goal for helping people grow.") Freire, on the other hand, had a different view ("I think that both mobilizing and organizing have in their nature education as something indispenable..."). Using this dialogue as a starting point, this session will provide participants with a opportunity to share their experiences and reflect on what we have learned.
