Roots of the Public Sector Budget Crisis

A workshop at the Labor Notes Conference, Detroit, MI (April 23 to April 25, 2010)

States are swimming in red ink and there's no end in sight. Public services are on the chopping block and unionized teachers, bus drivers, and librarians are the new public enemy No. 1. This workshop will explain how state and local budgets got to be such a mess, why politicians are slashing and burning instead of reversing a generation of tax cuts, and what public sector unions
need to do to get out of this bind.

Led by Mike Prokosch, Massachusetts Community Labor United & Board member of UFE
Steve Schnapp, Senior, Education Coordinator, United for a Fair Economy
