Who Owns What & Why it Matters - A workshop led by Tami Sober, author of "Teaching Economics As If People Mattered" and Assistant Director of the Office of Teaching & Learning, Virginia Education Association.

This workshop is part of SUNY-New Paltz's 15th Annual Multicultural Education Conference - "Teaching & Learning in Hard Times: Challenges & Opportunities"

In this workshop, which is based on Lesson 11 of Teaching Economics As If People Mattered" participants take part in middle/high school lessons exploring: U.S. ownership of stocks by race; how wealth begets wealth; percentages of U.S. family savings and, with job loss, the amount of time that the average family could survive before running out of money. We review the educational, social, and emotional impacts on students from these vulnerable families.
