Training Network Launches in North Carolina

Thank you to all those who attended the Training of Trainers in North Carolina! Over three days, participants became trainers, gaining new skills to facilitate workshops and build the movement to raise the minimum wage.

The training was co-facilitated by UFE’s Executive Director Jeannette Huezo and Popular Educators Eroc Arroyo-Montano and Riahl O’Malley. Our Training of Trainers (ToTs) use UFE’s unique popular education and healing justice methodology. After attending a ToT, participants are able to facilitate their own trainings using the lenses of race, gender, and economic inequality. The training was manifested by our team in North Carolina, including NC Training Network Coordinator David Dixon, Inclusive Economies Project Director Michael Young, and National Communications Coordinator Richard Lindayen.

Meeting at the Conference Center The day began bright and early for many that attended. Some folks from western North Carolina left in the morning to make it in time for the afternoon kickoff. We had participants from around the state: Raleigh, Asheville, Charlotte, Hendersonville, and beyond!	Getting to Know Each Other Our group gathered at the Avila Conference and Retreat center in Durham for our 3 day training. The training was designed for participants to learn from one another, and gain new skills to move the campaign to raise NC's minimum wage forward.

Split into Teams During the first half of the training, our attendees first participated in a demonstration of the workshop curriculum. During the middle portion, we reviewed popular education methodologies and the reasoning behind the workshop's carefully planned activities. Finally, attendees stepped into the shoes of the facilitators, splitting up into teams to plan and present activities before the full group in a practice run of the workshop.	Interviews for a Video Project The groups we had at the training are rarely present all at once in the same room. We wanted to make the most of this rare opportunity, so we collected stories with participants at the training. We are currently working on a video project so our partners can use this footage to tell the story of their organizations' work.
