Job Opening: Program Coordinator

United for a Fair Economy is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented program coordinator to work on the Tax Fairness Organizing Collaborative, a national network of state-level tax fairness groups that use community organizing as the primary vehicle for driving progressive policy change. As an ‘organizer of organizers,’ this is a unique opportunity for an individual with strong interpersonal skills, a hands-on leadership style, and a deep appreciation for policy and community organizing.

The TFOC Program Coordinator will work with the TFOC Program Director and other staff to connect and strengthen the capacity of TFOC members to advance progressive tax reform at the state levels, while simultaneously identifying and pursuing opportunities to elevate the work of the TFOC nationally. While primarily supporting the national network, the Coordinator will also work with the Program Director to build on new, targeted initiatives in key TFOC states.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

In collaboration with the TFOC Director, help to manage and coordinate all aspects of the national network, as well as provide support for state specific coordination where needed.

1. Support and coordinate the Tax Fairness Organizing Collaborative network.

  • Cultivate and maintain effective relationships with colleagues in TFOC organizations, within UFE, and with other national, regional and state organizations to identify opportunities for collaboration.
  • Lead role in planning and organizing the TFOC “Raise the Roots” annual conference for members and allies, in close collaboration with the TFOC Director.
  • Assist with the research, publication, and promotion of TFOC-relevant reports, case studies, op-eds, etc.
  • Monitor state fiscal issues across the country and maintain familiarity with state and federal tax issues.
  • Support TFOC member campaigns as appropriate, including emailing action alerts to UFE members in TFOC states, organizing calls to action, and leveraging other resources within UFE to support the on-the-ground campaigns.
  • Regularly evaluate and improve the TFOC’s program work, in part through periodic all-member participatory strategic planning process.
  • Provide stories, reports, and plans as necessary to support the grant writing and reporting related to the TFOC work.
  • Participate in TFOC steering committee meeting and produce timely follow up to action items

2. Help support and build the capacity of TFOC members.

  • Link TFOC members with capacity-building resources, including workshops and trainings from UFE's popular economics education team, high-wealth allies from UFE's Responsible Wealth team, as well as outside resources.
  • Plan 6-8 Webinars per year for the TFOC member organizations, including identifying topics and speakers, as well as outreach and promotion.
  • Maintain the TFOC listserv and research new and effective ways to create interactive resource sharing across the network
  • Maintain awareness of best practices in digital and community organizing, and provide related support to TFOC members as needed.
  • Plan activities and events for staff of member groups, including topical conference calls, conferences, house parties, workshops, etc.

3. Teamwork and duties at United for a Fair Economy.

  • Participate in other UFE work, including staff and program department meetings; organizational strategic planning and evaluation; and development activities.
  • Participate in UFE’s efforts to become an anti-racist, anti-oppression organization.

 Skills and Qualifications

  • Passion for community organizing as a model for achieving political change.
  • 4 years Experience in a coalition building, base building, chapter-based organizing, grassroots mobilization, or movement building.
  • Experience with conference planning and skill building workshop design
  • Knowledge of Popular Education methodology a plus
  • Strong writing and communications skills, including experience with new and digital media and online organizing best practices.
  • Superior project management and organizational skills; ability to manage time and prioritize work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen effectively and collaborate with other team members.
  • Ability and willingness to travel nationally about 3-6 times a year.
  • Comfortable with online technology (i.e. social media, CRM software, online organizing tools)
  • Spanish-language fluency a plus.

Salary and Benefits: ­­­­­­­­­­­$40,000 to $48,000 depending on experience. Very generous benefits, including full health care coverage of employees and their families, dental, employer-supported 401-K, MBTA pass, vacation, sick time, and more.
