Workers meeting to prepare for legislative visits

On April 26th, UFE and our Raising Wages North Carolina partners mobilized low-wage workers and allies to gather in Raleigh, NC for a Lobby Day and “Building Worker Power” Convening. The Raising Wages NC coalition, which UFE coordinates, is continuing to mobilize workers and advocate for the state legislature to raise the minimum wage to $15/hr.

An interview with Irma Flores

Irma Flores is the Spanish Service Coordinator for the SomerViva Office of Immigrant Affairs in the City of Somerville, Massachusetts. Over many years, she has partnered with UFE to develop popular education facilitation and leadership skills, and apply them in her work to civically engaged immigrant communities. She identifies as a Latina, a person of color, and an immigrant from El Salvador. 

Irma is one of many local leaders who have come through UFE’s workshops, trainings, and mentorship who is multiplying UFE’s impact in Boston and throughout Eastern Massachusetts through her work as a popular educator, facilitator, and trainer.

The Grassroots Organizing School of Alabama (GOSA), co-created and co-led by the Alabama Coalition for Immigrant Justice (ACIJ) and United for a Fair Economy (UFE), held our first two Training of Trainers (TOTs) on February 24–26, 2023 at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and March 18th at the ACIJ office.

United for a Fair Economy is excited to share our new Economics for Everyone Conversation Deck!

Inspired by popular education and conversation card decks that spark dialogue, this bilingual deck of 52 open-ended questions about our personal experiences with the economy is a tool for building community and inspiring action for economic justice. The virtual version is available to all for free. The deck includes the beautiful artwork featured above.

Today we remember Jean Entine, former UFE board member, longtime donor, and co-founder of the Boston Women’s Fund. Jean dedicated most of her life to working in the nonprofit sector and fighting for social justice causes. Her commitment to a fair economy and her generous financial support helped sustain our work over the years.

United for a Fair Economy joined groups including Power on the Line and Alabama Arise last Wednesday, October 5, to hear the initial arguments at the Supreme Court on an Alabama redistricting case that will have a profound impact on minority voting rights across the nation.

Our Director of Cultural Organizing, Eroc Arroyo-Montano, was interviewed last week to discuss “The Discipline of Hope” with Ricky Grant Jr. In the interview, Eroc shares a brief history of Puerto Rico and how this helped spark the fire for him being a “Revolutionary for Hope” today.
