Development Intern

UFE’s Development Team is responsible for several vital functions of the organization, including fundraising and donor communications. We work with a growing number of individual and institutional donors, endeavoring to build long-lasting and meaningful relationships that provide for a high level of satisfaction on the part of our supporters on one end, and the long-term financial stability of the organization on the other.

Note: This internship may be particularly appealing to students with interests in non-profit organizational management.

As our Program objectives grow, so too does the need to meet the financial demands of that growth. And, as our issues become front-page news, we work with our Program staff to stay on the heels of public dialogue with UFE’s analysis of how policies affect economic inequality.

The Development Intern will work closely with UFE’s Senior Development Associate to assist the team with a variety of tasks to meet our organizational priorities.

Fundraising duties may include:

  • Assisting with foundation research to identify potential funding sources for UFE programs
  • Assisting with direct mail and membership appeals to all individual donors, including major donors
  • Assisting in preparation of informational materials (e.g. brochures, information/fact sheets, direct mail materials, prospective donor information packages, etc.)
  • Assisting in preparation and implementation of donor events (e.g. house parties), donor education/engagement events (e.g. briefings/symposia)
  • Participating in calling sessions for donor engagement and fundraising
  • Assisting in database updates and strategic mail and email list generation

Communications duties may include:

  • Research, writing and delivery of UFE’s print and electronic publications
  • Writing and editing content for our website, social networks, and other online vehicles

Helpful skills and qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Familiarity with Mac operating system, Microsoft Office, FileMaker Pro (training provided), HTML (training provided)
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a team member
  • Detail oriented, high standards for quality of work

Hours are flexible, but schedule can range from 10-40 hours per week. We will provide a free monthly MBTA pass for interns working over 20 hours per week. Travel reimbursements are available for interns working below 20 hours per week.
