We send our condolences to the family and friends from Berta Cáceres and the Honduran people who has fought by her side. Unfortunately in much of the US media coverage, there has been a glaring omission about Berta’s death.

Almost none of the coverage mentioned that the brutal regime that likely killed her came to power in a 2009 coup d’etat supported by US. tax dollars, under President Barack Obama and then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. Chaos in other countries is seen as something organic, a product of failed cultures doomed to perpetual violence. It’s usually more complicated than that—especially in a region with a history of US intervention going back more than a century. Learn about Berta's incredible work in the video below:
