Equal Tax Act Would Make the Tax Code More Equitable

UFE and our Responsible Wealth project joined Patriotic Millionaires and others in supporting the Equal Tax Act -- landmark legislation which would ensure that investment income is taxed the same as income earned by workers.

Introduced by Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) on September 11, 2025, the Equal Tax Act would ensure that wealthy investors pay the same tax rate on their income that working people pay on their income, by taxing investment income at the same rate as earned income for earnings over $1 million annually. It eliminates one of the ways the wealthy avoid taxes by ending the stepped up basis loophole with unprecedented protections for family farms and businesses.

Other organizations in support include: Indivisible; Voices for Progress; Americans for Tax Fairness; Institute for Policy Studies, Global Economy Project; National Women’s Law Center Action Fund; Coalition on Human Needs; Oxfam America; Public Advocacy for Kids (PAK); NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice; Equal Rights Advocates; Americans for Financial Reform; People’s Action; Housing Action Illinois; Accountable.US; American Friends Service Committee; MomsRising; and National Association of Social Workers.
