Michael Young was a beloved member of the UFE team who led our work in North Carolina before his passing.

One of the joys of our late colleague Michael Young was playing the occasional round of golf, and he got a lot of pleasure from passing on that joy to his family and friends, many of whom continue to play. 

On August 5th, 2022, friends, family, and colleagues of Michael Young and United for a Fair Economy gathered at the Hillandale Golf Course in Durham, NC to remember Michael's life and legacy over a round of golf. The weather was perfect (though a little hot) for a full 18 holes, with dinner with live music afterwards. We are thankful for everyone who joined us for this very special event.

The following morning, we also held a dedication ceremony for a the new Michael Young memorial garden, now completed at the Avila Center in Durahm, NC. Michael was instrumental in making the Avila Center the space it is today-- a home for organizers to gather, connect and grow together. A safe place where all communities are welcome. We are so excited to have a living memorial forever honoring his legacy and contributions to UFE's work and to this beautiful space.
