Working over a weekend earlier this summer reminded me why I do this work and why community continues to be our greatest source of strength.

Trabajar durante el fin de semana a principios de este verano me recordó por qué hago este trabajo y por qué la comunidad sigue siendo nuestra principal fuente de fortaleza.
Learning, Reflecting, Leading with Immigrant Young Women
On Saturday of the second weekend in June, I had the privilege of facilitating a workshop for Centro Presente, one of our partner organizations in Boston. The participants were 17 incredible young women, ages 14 to 23, all with immigration roots. Many have experienced migration themselves, while others are the daughters of immigrant parents. Together, we created a space for storytelling, learning, and reflection.

As part of UFE, moments like these remind me that leadership begins by listening, building trust, and believing in the potential of every young person. I left inspired by their courage, their wisdom, and the dreams they continue to hold onto despite the hard challenges they are facing.

Celebrating with TPS Holders at a Difficult Time
The next day, on Sunday, I represented UFE standing alongside the Massachusetts TPS Committee as they celebrated nine years of organizing, resilience, and collective action. The celebration came at a difficult moment, with the future of Temporary Protected Status facing serious threats. Yet the room was filled with something stronger than fear: people sharing their stories, honoring the victories that brought us here, and recommitting to the fight for dignity and justice.

The Ways We Can Build Together When We’re Anchored in Our Stories
What stayed with me most throughout the weekend was the power of stories. Stories that teach us. Stories that connect us. Stories that remind us that behind every policy are real people, real families, and real dreams.
I also left with another reminder: joy is not separate from our organizing—it is part of it. In the laughter, the music, the hugs, and the hope we shared, I saw joy as a way to resist, to heal, and to imagine the future we are fighting for.
Weekends like this reaffirm why UFE invests in leadership, political education, and community. We grow stronger when we learn from one another, organize together, and continue believing that a more just future is possible.
I ended the weekend feeling deeply grateful — for the people who trusted us with their stories, the communities that continue to organize with love and courage, and the reminder that even in difficult times, hope is something we build together.

Aprender, reflexionar y liderar con mujeres jóvenes inmigrantes
El sábado durante el segundo fin de semana de junio tuve el privilegio de facilitar un taller para nuestra organización hermana, Centro Presente, y su programa de mujeres, con 17 jóvenes increíbles, de 14 a 23 años, todas con raíces migratorias. Muchas han experimentado la migración por ellas mismas, mientras que otras son hijas de padres inmigrantes. Juntas, creamos un espacio para contar historias, aprender y reflexionar.

Como parte de UFE, momentos como estos me recuerdan que el liderazgo comienza por escuchar, construir confianza y creer en el potencial de cada joven. Salí inspirada por su valentía, su sabiduría y los sueños a los que se aferran, a pesar de los retos difíciles que enfrentan.

Celebrando con los beneficiarios del TPS en un momento difícil
El domingo, UFE estuvo junto al Comité TPS de Massachusetts mientras celebraban nueve años de organización, resiliencia y acción colectiva. La celebración llegó en un momento difícil, con el futuro del Estatus de Protección Temporal enfrenta serias amenazas. Sin embargo, el lugar estaba lleno de algo más fuerte que el miedo: personas compartiendo sus historias, honrando las victorias que nos han traído hasta aquí y retomando su compromiso con la lucha por la dignidad y la justicia.

Las formas en que podemos construir juntos cuando estamos anclados en nuestras historias
Lo que más me marcó durante todo el fin de semana fue el poder de las historias. Historias que nos enseñan. Historias que nos conectan. Historias que nos recuerdan que detrás de cada política hay personas reales, familias reales y sueños reales
También me fui con otro recordatorio: la alegría no está separada de nuestra organización—forma parte de ella. En las risas, la música, los abrazos y la esperanza que compartíamos, vi la alegría como una forma de resistir, de sanar e imaginar el futuro por el que luchamos.
Fines de semana como este reafirman por qué UFE invierte en liderazgo, educación política y comunidad. Nos fortalecemos cuando aprendemos unos de otros, nos organizamos juntos y seguimos creyendo que un futuro más justo es posible.
Terminé el fin de semana sintiéndome profundamente agradecida. Agradecida por las personas que confiaron en nosotros con sus historias, por las comunidades que siguen organizándose con amor y valor, y por recordarnos que incluso en tiempos difíciles, la esperanza es algo que construimos juntos.
