Duke Romero joined the UFE board in 2025. He brings over 30 years of advocacy and organizing experience to his role, including nation-wide organizing and training for direct action initiatives. He is a strong communicator in environmental education and Indigenous sacred site protection. 

Duke Romero se incorporó a la junta directiva de la UFE en 2025. Aporta a su cargo más de 30 años de experiencia en defensa y organización, incluida la organización y formación a nivel nacional para niciativas de acción directa. Es un gran comunicador en materia de educación medioambiental y protección de los lugares sagrados indígenas. 

Duke and his family are members of the Apache Stronghold, who continue to fight at the Supreme Court for the freedom of religion and the protection of the sacred land at Oak Flat. His mother is Picuris Pueblo and Jicarilla, and his father is Cochiti Pueblo and Mexican. Duke grew up in Pueblo, Colorado on the ancestral lands of the Picuris and currently resides on the San Carlos Apache reservation in southeastern Arizona. He is the proud father of one daughter and two sons. 

Duke y su familia son miembros de Apache Stronghold, que siguen luchando en el Tribunal Supremo por la libertad religiosa y la protección de la tierra sagrada de Oak Flat. Su madre es picuris pueblo y jicarilla, y su padre es cochiti pueblo y mexicano. Duke creció en Pueblo, Colorado, en las tierras ancestrales de los Picuris, y actualmente reside en la reserva apache de San Carlos, en el sureste de Arizona. Es el orgulloso padre de una hija y dos hijos. 

Duke believes that unification as people will help the next generations continue our work to protect Mother Earth, and that it will take all of us to preserve what we have left. He looks forward to learning and growing with the UFE team.
