The growing racial and economic divide is the result of hundreds of years of laws, practices and policies created to sustain white supremacy and protect white wealth.

The national holiday on Monday depicts Martin Luther King Jr.’s efforts as a part of history. But the fight that he dedicated his life to has not yet been won. Dr. King once described the civil rights victories of the 1960s as having achieved “a degree of decency, not of equality.”

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, we have been busier than ever working with organizers and activists to help build and sustain movements for economic, racial, and gender justice. Now is the time to come together - while remaining physically distant - to build even more powerful movements for justice and fix the broken systems harming our communities.

We are disgusted at the lack of justice in the recent jury decision that found Kyle Rittenhouse not guilty of homicide or recklessly endangering the safety of others, but we have also heard the circular, racist arguments given by white supremacists attempting to justify their actions too many times to be shocked.

UFE's Responsible Wealth Project organized our members to sign on to a letter in support of the Billionaire Income Tax as part of the Democrat's social-spending package.

In late October 2021, over two dozen trainees and facilitators attended the Training of Trainers held at the new Avila Retreat Center. This was the first time we held one of our classic training of trainers experiences in over a year. Participants followed a 3-day training on the issue of persistent and growing racial and economic inequality in the U.S.

We are sad to announce the passing of Seymour Michael Miller (a.k.a. S.M. Miller, aka Mike), one of the four founders of United for a Fair Economy in 1994. Sociologist, professor, activist, and a prolific writer, Mike touched the lives of countless students, activists, colleagues and friends.

UFE is excited to announce the release of our "Color of Wealth 2021" infographic!

We are excited to release this infographic about the racial wealth divide. This project topic was chosen to commemorate the 15th anniversary of "The Color of Wealth," a book written in collaboration with UFE in 2006.

The UFE popular education team was back at it last weekend, hosting our first in-person training in over a year! The group was excited learn and grow from one another, dream bold new visions for the future, and share physical space in a way that we haven’t been able to for a long time.

According to a new report from ProPublica, the wealthiest US taxpayers pay an true tax rate that is far below that of a normal worker.

Perhaps most concerning is that the ways the wealthy avoid paying taxes are legal under current rules. This is another example of our economy working in favor of those at the very top, not everyday people. We need to tax income from wealth like income from work is. Imagine what the additional revenue from taxing wealth could do in the communities that made that wealth possible.

In January, UFE supported a series of popular education facilitations to build a more equitable city of Everett with Everett's first Justice Summit, led by Allie Rojas, a former UFE training participant and recent collaborator. Guided by the idea “you can’t break a stick in a bundle,” organizers and community members from across backgrounds joined together to discuss shared values and build a framework for “not only coming together, but working together” to build a more just and equitable community and city.
