UFE Hosts Conversation on the Crisis at Guatemala’s Public University

On August 29, United for a Fair Economy and the Centro Comunitario de Trabajadores (CCT)  joined community members in New Bedford, Massachusetts, for a conversation about the ongoing crisis at the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala (USAC), the country’s only public university.

Since I arrived in the USA, the Fourth of July meant cookouts, music, and fireworks. Like many people, I was taught that Independence Day was a celebration of freedom—a day to feel proud of this country and grateful for the opportunities it offers.

As I've gotten older, that celebration has become more complicated.
